To the Eastland High School Students and Faculty, I just wanted to thank each and every one of you for helping me and Tricia get through our time of loss. I know Mindi is looking down on us now with the biggest smile ever. She really loved going to Eastland High School and felt so close to so many of you, even though her time was short here, she was very happy. Every day it seemed she had some story about her friends teachers, or coaches and it was always told with so much happiness and fun. When I would pick her up from school she would always say "hey mom look at my muscles in my arms how big they're getting" and I would say "wow everyone better watch out." She so much wanted to be the best in everything and her volleyball was so important to her. Well I hope each of you will think of her smiling face and go forward in life and succeed in a positive and motivational direction in life as she would be so proud of you to do so. I know tonight when you go to your playoff game she will be there with you because she so much loved being a part of a school with so much motivation and teamwork. So guys get out there and do it for your school, your town, al your family and friends, but most of all do it for yourself and do it for Mindi because she really does love each and everyone of you. God bless each one of you, Love, "Mindi's Mom" Patti Roulston
Thank you from Life Gift... LIFE GIFT ORGAN DONATION CENTER December 7, 2005 Dear Gary and Patti, Please accept my condolences once more for the tragic, untimely death of your precious daughter Mindi. I know that this must have been a very difficult time for you and your family to endure, but because of your brave and selfless decision to help others, Mindi was able to save the lives of five people and affect the lives of many more. I want to share some information about Mindi' s gifts that I hope will provide you some comfort. Mindi's heart was given to a 12-year-old girl from North Carolina, who lives at home with her parents. She had suffered from a congenital heart problem all of her life and recently became too ill to function, she had been waiting for almost eleven months for a compatible match. The transplant surgery was immediately successful and she is recovering very well. She is enthusiastic about being home and soon being able to return to school, both of which she has missed dearly since becoming so sick. Her parents have expressed sincere gratitude for the family that gave them this beautiful opportunity. Mindi's lungs were given to a 62-year-old retired woman from Houston. She has been married for many years, has three adult children and several grandchildren who love her very much. She had been requiring full time oxygen therapy due to the severity of her emphysema and had become very limited in her activities. She is recovering well after her transplant surgery and is looking forward to spending time and doing "grandmother stuff' with her grandchildren. Her liver was given to a 38-year-old married mother of three children from Garicasville, Texas. The progression of her liver disease had left her unable to work and drained her energy so much that even simple tasks had become impossible, but most of all she was missing out on her children's lives. Since her transplant she is doing very well and hopes to be able to do normal everyday things with her children and family very soon. One of Mindi's kidneys was given to a 65-year-old widowed woman from California. She had been waiting for a kidney for a little over two years. She has five children, 3 biological and two adopted and tries to remain as active as she can with them and her grandchildren. She is progressing well and is home now with normal kidney function. The other kidney was given to an 8-year-old boy from Utah, who lives at home with his parents, his 4-year-old brother and 9-year-old sister. He loves studying about dinosaurs, hiking and spending time outdoors. The transplant surgery was immediately successful and he is doing so well. He is home now and is enjoying his life that is suddenly free of dialysis machines and treatments. Mindi will help many, many other people through the tissue grafts that were able to be recovered and will provide the gift of sight to two other individuals. On behalf of these recipients, their families and all whose lives have been touched by Mindi's special gifts, thank you. Your decision is truly a tribute to Mindi' s memory and will never be forgotten. Thank you from Southwest Medical Center Transplant Services... On behalf of Transplant Services Center, may I express our condolences to you and your family over the loss of your daughter, Mindi. Thank you for your compassionate decision to donate her tissues so that other people may have an opportunity for a better life. People like you, with the willingness to give, offer continued hope to those awaiting transplantation. Setting aside your own needs and grief to consider the option of donation improves the quality of life for others. Because of your gift, a 26-year old woman received restoration of sight. For those receiving these transplants and for Transplant Services Center, I express our gratitude for these priceless gifts. Our hope is that you and your family find some comfort in knowing the benefit you have brought to others. Your thoughtful concern for others will be long remembered by those who receive the gift of transplantation. Sincerely, Donna
